With natural gas costs expected to increase in the coming months, you can prepare by using these tips to reduce your energy use while maintaining your comfort. Budget Billing can also help balance seasonal energy costs over the year.
For families that qualify, SCG will match every dollar paid by you or on your behalf (up to a zero balance) if you successfully complete the plan. So, you pay a portion, energy assistance pays a portion and we pay a portion. Bottom line: you may have to pay for only about one-third of your gas heating expense if you qualify. COVID-19 Payment Program
If you are experiencing financial difficulties during this pandemic, the COVID-19 Payment Program is available to you and offers payment plans up to 24 months, with no down payments, fees or interest is available. Please call us at 800.659.8299 for more information. Our company representatives are available to work with you to create a mutually agreeable payment arrangement to avoid interruption of your natural gas service. Residential customers can enroll in the COVID-19 Payment Program through the end of the Public Health and Civil Preparedness Emergencies.
The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) will help pay winter heating bills for low income qualified households. Applications are taken at your local Community Action Agency. Call InfoLine at 2-1-1 to find your local application site.
Operation Fuel provides assistance for families who earn a little more than the energy assistance Guidelines allow. Call InfoLine at 2-1-1 for information about this program.

Disputing a Payment Arrangement
If you are unable to reach a satisfactory Payment Arrangement with our customer representative, you may ask to speak with a company Review Officer. If you disagree with a Review Officer’s decision concerning a Payment Arrangement, you may appeal within five days to the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA). If you disagree with PURA’s decision, you may request a hearing before PURA. During your appeal, your service will not be shut off, as long as you continue to pay your current and undisputed bill amounts during this period.
